The most popular fastest rising bed material you see at all the bed manufacture trade shows today is the latex bed. It is being used in a variety of functions from toppers for traditional inner spring mattresses to more and more use of the latex foam bed as the core material for the entire mattress itself. There are a variety of reasons why latex beds are becoming so popular and the first is because they are more ‘green’ than the traditional mattress. They are made of naturally occurring fibers and don’t have the same chemical off gas as a normal mattress would. Anyone who has purchase a memory foam mattress pad knows what I am talking about.
Its interesting to note that the foam latex bed people are so keen on now was not always the same type of bed. During World War II in an effort to make more beds and pads for the military a synthetic latex was introduced and a new conglomerate of latex foam mattresses was born. Unfortunately there was little distinction ever made between the natural latex and the synthetic and so eventually they were all called the same thing, latex foam beds.
The reason you need to know this is because now that there is no distinction in the naming many people are convinced to buy the synthetic when there are some pretty large differences between the synthetic latex foam bed, and the natural latex beds. Primarily the difference between being considered a ‘green’/natural product and one made with really harsh chemicals. The blends and synthetics are made with harsh mixes of chemical products and don’t offer the same hypoallergenic qualities the natural latex does. So if you are interested in latex beds because they are better for you and the environment remember that only NATURAL, non-blended mattresses are going to fit that mold.
When you go to purchase a latex bed there are 2 things you need to be concerned with. First, is there a no risk trial period wherein I can return the bed for a full refund if I don’t like it. This is key because there is no way to know whether the mattress will deliver a better nights sleep until you have had a chance to use it for a number of weeks. The second thing you need to know is how much it is going to cost.
