A King Size Sleigh Bed is a defined by its shape and size. The sleigh refers to the style of bed with a large headboard and foot board that have a rounded beveled top that looks similar to an actual sleigh. The beds are popular because they both look nice and are easy to install but also because they look quite literally like Santa’s sleigh.
King Size Sleigh Beds have been in high demand ever since the early 1800′s, and even more so in larger more spacious bedrooms. Because the modern master bedrooms of today have much more space the sleigh king size bed frame can fit just about anywhere. The bed will fit even if its the more full scaled frames or designed with a more low-profile headboard. The finer material you choose for the bed the more elegant the piece looks in its location. Typically Cherry or Mahogany woods look the best because of its rich coloring. Although there are other woods that can be crafted in a way that gives them very old world looks while saving on hard cost of materials.
King size sleigh bed frames are distinct because of their rounded head and foot boards. Usually there are grooves in the boards for the side runners to be inserted and then you simply lay 2 by 2 pieces of wood across from one side to the other creating the actual frame of the bed. You will need to buy additional support cross beams as in most cases the beds do not come with enough to adequately support the weight of the bed itself. This is easy as you can just take the existing piece down to Home Depot to get identical ones made.
The prices of different sleigh beds will be determined largely by the materials used in the making of the bed frame itself. Particle board covered with a cherry wood veneer will be much cheaper than an actual cherry wood bed. Many people search on-line for cheaper beds and fall victim to people who claim to have a 100% mahogany bed, when in reality its a cheap wood covered in what appears to be expensive wood. The easiest way to tell is by how many people it takes to carry the bed frame. A real high quality wood will take more then 2 people to carry. A high quality bed will run between $3,000 and $5,000 dollars depending on who makes the bed.
