One of the most important bedrooms in the whole house is the master. Most people use it as a sanctuary to get rid of the troubles that day and prepare for what lies ahead for tomorrow. Because it is the room where you spend the most amount of time it should also be the room that most reflects who you are. A full size headboard can be used to communicate to the world who you are as a person and what your own personal style is. It gives your room a back drop that you can use to spring board out into other design elements in the room. The center of your room is your bed so the head board gives that center piece a nice frame.

In actual use the headboard can be used to prop you up as you watch tv or read or work on your lap top. It creates a natural barrier from the wall itself and fills in the small gap that can come up there, it also prevents you from losing things like the remote control. A lot of the full size headboards on the market today are designed to maximize the amount of available space. Some people elect a more involved headboard and they pick one that has shelves or other areas to store things so the headboard is functional as well.

Function can only go so far if you plan to use the head board with an adjustable bed, or with a bunk bed as there are often too many moving parts to make it work. Before you head to the local RC Willey to buy a headboard you want to educate yourself on both price and design. Do you have a more modern style with smooth lines? Maybe you are more traditional. Some people consider their decorative taste to be country. With more involved designs and curved ends you can communicate a more romantic look. If you can’t really identify with a given style there are magazines you can buy at any furniture store or hardware store that will give you good ideas. Think about what sticks out to you as you watch tv and movies. We recently saw a movie where a classic southern house had been remodeled and my wife immediately was drawn to the style of the home.

Full Size Stand Alone Headboard

Headboards are purchased to add to the look and decoration of a room by offering a focal point and giving an extra sense of presence to the bed.  There are a few things we should define within the bed and its options first.  There is a mattress which is the cushy part your body rests on.  Then there is the box spring which is what the mattress rests on to add extra support and keep the bed off the floor.  There is a bed frame which is usually what holds the mattress pad off the ground and creates the space under the bed where the monsters hide.  This is what makes up the basic ‘bed.’  Of course you may or may not have a bed frame or a box spring, but if you don’t have the mattress then you don’t have a bed.

With the basic bed consisting of the box spring, the mattress and the bed frame there are some things you can purchase to make the bed look a little more inviting and to add to the decoration of the room.  The most basic addition would be a full size stand alone headboard.  This would go at the head of the bed and extend to within a few inches give or take from the edges of the bed.  It creates a nice focal point in the room and can be used do give the room a sense of purpose or feeling.  You can buy and use full size headboards without having to purchase anything else.  If you are decorating a room on a budget this can be a great way to go.

To complete a bed many people will buy a bed frame that is part of a larger set of furniture.  This type of set up usually includes a headboard, a foot board and side boards.  They typically connect in some way to form the bed frame that you will place the bed on.  Doing this gives you a lot of options for decoration and types of beds.  I have a queen size sleigh bed set that has a headboard, foot board and side boards that all connect and then some girders that lay across the side boards to form the frame.  Full size stand alone headboards are a great way to make the room look finished without having to spend all the money to buy a complete bed set.
